Sword Dance There are two variations - one is called 'longsword' from Yorkshire, and the other is 'rapper' from Northumbria. The longsword is a rigid metal bar, not a true sword, but a length of raw metal a blacksmith might use to make the sword. The 'rapper' sword is a shorter flexible two-handled sword. The dancers link together holding these swords to weave intricate patterns before raising the star-shaped 'lock'.
